Theatre in the National Portfolio
179 theatre companies currently receive regular Arts Council funding as part of our National Portfolio.Find out more
Theatre companies represent the largest group in our current National Portfolio. They range from tiny fringe venues to large theatres with multiple performing spaces.
In 2014–15 we invested £178.3 million in theatre to fund producing venues, companies, touring and festivals, as well as individual artists and producers.
We want everyone to be able to enjoy theatre. We fund organisations across England and those that tour widely, as well as supporting high quality work for children, young people and their families. We're also developing new ways to make productions available digitally.
We hope to widen the understanding and appreciation of the many and varied kinds of theatre, which reflect our diverse and rich society.
